Ingredients
- 1 cup dried onion flakes (I prefer the larger flakes for better texture)
- 1/2 cup beef bouillon granules (or powder – choose a high-quality brand for the best flavor. I’ve found that the richer, darker bouillons work best.)
- 1/4 cup onion powder
- 2 tablespoons dried parsley
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon celery seed
- 1 teaspoon black pepper (freshly ground is always best!)
- 1 teaspoon paprika (sweet or smoked, depending on your preference)
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar (this helps balance the flavors and enhances the caramelization of the onions when you use the mix)
- 1/4 tsp turmeric (optional, for color and slight earthy flavor)
Instructions
- Gather Your Ingredients: Make sure everything is fresh and dry. Moisture is the enemy of a good soup mix!
- Combine Dry Ingredients: In a medium-sized bowl, combine all the ingredients: onion flakes, beef bouillon, onion powder, parsley, garlic powder, celery seed, pepper, paprika, and sugar.
- Mix Thoroughly: Use a whisk or a fork to ensure all the ingredients are evenly distributed. You want every spoonful of the mix to have the perfect balance of flavors. I usually give it a good stir for at least a minute.
- Store Properly: Transfer the mix to an airtight container. A mason jar, a zip-top bag, or a spice container all work well. Store it in a cool, dark, dry place (like your pantry) for up to 6 months.
